Selita Ebanks was born in Georgetown, Cayman Islands, on February 15, 1983. She was raised in a large family that included seven brothers, and because of that, Selita Ebanks played many sports growing up, such as basketball, football and tennis. But the family was quite poor, living in what Selita Ebanks later described as "a little blue, zinc-roof shack on Walkers Road." Often, Selita Ebanks didn't even have shoes to wear to Georgetown primary school. Yet Selita Ebanks' family, and her mother in particular, encouraged her development through exposure to extra-curricular programs.Eventually, the young Selita Ebanks found herself moving to America, and she settled on Staten Island. She proved to be a good student in high school, and was later accepted into Columbia and New York University. But Selita Ebanks' life had already taken an unexpected turn that would put her higher education on hold. At the age of 17, Selita Ebanks was discovered by a modeling agent at New Jersey's Six Flags Great Adventure.

Early life
Selita Ebanks was born on 15 February 1983 in George Town, Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands, a British Overseas Territory. She was raised in a large family that includes seven brothers. Influenced by her brothers, Ebanks played many sports growing up, such as basketball, soccer and tennis.[citation needed] Her family, her mother in particular, encouraged her development through extracurricular programs.
Education
Ebanks moved to the United States, and settled in Staten Island, New York. After moving to New York City she was accepted at Spelman College, Columbia University, and New York University.
Career

At 17 years old, while walking through the turnstiles at Six Flags Great Adventure, Ebanks was scouted by an agent from Elite Model Management. Ebanks worked with some of the world's most noted photographers, including Peter Lindbergh, Bruce Weber, Steven Klein, Carter Smith and Mikael Jansson, and for some of the most quintessential American fashion campaigns, including Ralph Lauren, Abercrombie & Fitch, Levi's and Tommy Hilfiger.
Ebanks first modeled for Victoria's Secret for their Ipex Bra line, before being signed as an Angel. She and Izabel Goulart made their major débuts in the 2005 Victoria's Secret Fashion Show, working as an Angel until early 2009. In 2005, Tyra Banks said she was proud of Ebanks to be representing for black women at Victoria's Secret.
Ebanks made a special guest appearance on How I Met Your Mother (episode: "The Yips") on 26 November 2007 with her fellow Victoria's Secret supermodels (Miranda Kerr, Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Marisa Miller, and Alessandra Ambrosio).
She made her first appearance on Sports Illustrated's 2007 Swimsuit Issue.
She has recorded some music and appeared on the UPN-series South Beach.
She appeared on the third season of Celebrity Apprentice, but was fired in week 5 on April 11th. Personal life
Ebanks was engaged to rapper, actor, and comedian Nick Cannon. On 4 October 2007, People magazine announced that the couple ended their engagement.
